The main background behind the keb windvane is to accomplish a design which is well functional and at a low cost for the buyers. Self steering rudder is generally an expensive part for the sailors. The driving force is also to make the rudder with as few moving part as possible all in order to keep costs down.


The figure to the left gives all the main parts in the wind rudder. As can be seen the rudder consists just of eleven main parts.
